Children are born with an incredible capacity to imagine, create, and grow. And while no two children are the same, every one of them carries a unique gift waiting to be discovered.
As we celebrate Children’s Month, we’re encouraging parents, guardians, and mentors to pause and take a closer look at what lights up your child from the inside out and could grow into something remarkable. Here are three ways to identify a child’s gifts.
Some children take apart toys just to figure out how they work. Others write little notes, draw all over the walls, or mimic everything they see. These aren’t random habits, they’re often signs of deep-seated interests and potential talents.
Expose them to materials and experiences that relate to their interests. For example, a child who enjoys poetry may benefit from reading age-appropriate poems or listening to spoken word performances.
When your child is truly immersed in something, time flies. Whether it’s sketching, storytelling, building with blocks, or humming tunes, these moments of pure joy and focus often lead you to their gift.
Start collecting the drawings, stories, voice notes, or videos of their performances. You’re not just keeping memories, you’re documenting their journey and helping them see how far they’ve come.
Teachers, family members, friends sometimes they see what we miss. Don’t brush off compliments like “she tells amazing stories” Or “he’s really expressive.” Those casual remarks might be pointing directly at your child’s talent.
